Vignettes from Vermont: The Ballad of Obama & AGD on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in America

President Barack Obama (Joey Kulkin photo)

BENNINGTON -- Four years and one day ago Art Gallery Dude was Newspaper Editor Dude in The Trentonian newsroom, snapping photographs of his newsroom colleagues as the first black man was sworn in as 44th President of the United States of America.

For a few minutes that winter day, activity in the newsroom stopped so that everyone could watch this new piece of Americana.

At High Noon, 12 o'clock, January 20, 2009, in Trenton, New Jersey, Birthplace of America as we know it, Newspaper Editor Dude snapped the moment of moments from the image on a small TV placed high in the corner walls of the Trentonian newsroom: President Barack Hussein Obama staring the world in its eyes, chin-up.

Four years and one day later, Newspaper Editor Dude is Art Gallery Dude in the old marble bank of Fiddlehead at Four Corners in downtown Bennington.

Four years and one day later, Barack Obama remains President of the United States.

His second swearing-in -- on Martin Luther King Jr. Day -- is hours away.

Here are a few other photos from 1/20/09 in Trenton:
