Vignettes from Vermont: "You're A Big Boy Now" Part 1

BENNINGTON -- "You're A Big Boy Now" is my favorite movie.

And when I say that it means YABBN is in the circle of 5 "favorite" movies. The movie is based on the David Benedictus novel. A UCLA grad by the name of Francis Ford Coppola turned it into his senior thesis by rewriting and directing it for the silver screen.

The coming of age story takes place in New York City 1965 and features a wonderful cast of characters both old and new. Geraldine Page, who plays Bernard's mother, was nominated for an Oscar. Rip Torn plays his father. Peter Kastner played Bernard like an Oscar winner but never found stardom, and Elizabeth Hartman, who played Barbara Darling, killed herself at 43.

It's a marvelous movie, something straight out of the bizarro world.

So, one thing leads to another ... and over the last 2 days I have been interviewing Benedictus via email. He has been incredibly forthcoming and honest and chatty.

I'll publish that in the next day or two.

Until then, watch one of the greatest zaniest movies ever made (all 10 parts on YouTube):
