Vignettes from Vermont: FREE BEER!

Love free Vermont beer?

BENNINGTON -- Cold, craft beer from Northshire Brewery of Bennington will flow freely this Saturday when Fiddlehead at Four Corners art gallery celebrates Mayfest, the town's biggest street party, with an opening show for award-winning painter Olivia Hostler.

Free Beer!

Let that sink in for a few minutes as you continue to read.

Lucy Cadwallader walked into the gallery Friday evening and one thing leads to another ... and she walks out with a big lock of Art Gallery Dude's hair ...

Lucy, from Glen Rock, Pee-Ay, came to town for Saturday's Victorian Hair Art show at the Bennington Museum, because she makes Victorian jewelry -- bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings -- out of hair. Human hair. Horse hair. Your hair. My Hair. Everywhere a hair hair.

This morning, Lucy returned to Fiddlehead with a few more hair wares. She was marketing her business. Fiddlehead's curator didn't make the stink nose so Lucy passed the first test of whether her work goes on display in the coming weeks.

Here are the examples she left for the curator to take a closer look at ...

Braided horse hair earrings

Human hair, lacy ball earrings

Hair jewelry was all the rage during the Civil War thanks in part to Queen Victoria.

To understand how and why that piece of British and American duality drew Lucy to the unique artform, read the FAQ on her website (here). You can check out the many other examples of her work, too, not to mention you can hear the Civil War re-enactor speak about her pursuit in the video below.

FREE BEER!

Fiddlehead will serve free craft beer from Northshire Brewery of Bennington this Saturday during Mayfest. The cold suds start flowing during the show for Olivia Hostler.

Fiddlehead also plans to announce the winner of its photo contest during Mayfest. This year's theme was "Downtown Bennington" and we received a wonderful assortment of entries. Greater Bennington is blessed with a wealth of talented shutterbugs. To the winner goes $100 in Fiddlehead cash, and the Top 10 entries will be featured in a gallery exhibit.

FREE BEER!

Fiddlehead will serve free craft beer from Northshire Brewery of Bennington this Saturday during Mayfest. If you don't understand the concept of free beer then you really shouldn't show up. (But we'd love it if you did show up -- and spread the word for 6 days.)

FREE ... FREAKIN' ... BEER!
